Pink Floyd’s eleventh studio album, The Wall, released on November 30, 1979, by Harvest and Columbia Records. It is the band’s eleventh studio album. It’s a rock opera about Pink, a cynical rock artist whose self-imposed isolation from society becomes a metaphorical wall. Also, The album was a commercial success, charting at number one in the United States for 15 weeks and number three in the United Kingdom. It garnered negative reviews at first, with many critics dismissing it as overdone and pretentious, but it went on to be hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time and one of the band’s finest works.

During Pink Floyd’s 1977 In The Flesh tour, bassist Roger Waters autographs composed The Wall, basing Pink on himself and former bandmate Syd Barrett. The sessions took place between December 1978 and November 1979. Because the band members were dealing with personal and financial concerns at the time, producer Bob Ezrin assisted in refining the concept and bridging tensions during recording. The Wall was Pink Floyd’s final album as a quartet; with keyboardist Richard Wright being sacked by Waters during the recording process but staying on as a salaried musician.

“Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2” (Pink Floyd’s sole UK and US number-one single), “Run Like Hell,” and “Comfortably Numb” are the album’s three singles. Besides, Pink Floyd autographs performed the entire album on a tour that incorporated elaborate theatrical elements from 1980 to 1981. The Wall turned into a feature picture in 1982, with Waters writing the screenplay.

The group’s following album, The Final Cut, featured some of the outtakes from the recording sessions (1983). Colin Larkin’s All Time Top 1000 Albums ranked it 30th in 2000. Named to Rolling Stone’s rankings of the best albums of all time in 2003, 2012, and 2020. Furthermore, Waters launched a new Wall live tour from 2010 to 2013, which became the highest-grossing tour by a solo musician.
