John Symon Asher Bruce was a Scottish bassist, singer-songwriter, musician, and composer who lived from May 14, 1943, to October 25, 2014. He rose to fame as the bassist and co-lead singer of the British rock band Cream. He pursued a solo career and performed with many bands until the trio split up in 1968.

Early in the 1960s, Bruce joined the Graham Bond Organization (GBO). Where he met Ginger Baker, a future bandmate. He joined John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers after quitting the band, where he met Eric Clapton, another future bandmate. He only spent a short time with the band.
