Formula One (commonly known as Formula 1 or F1) is the highest level of international motorsport; it is reserved for open-wheel single-seater formula racing cars sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) (FIA). Since its inception in 1950, the World Drivers’ Championship, which evolved into the FIA Formula One World Championship in 1981, has been one of the most prestigious forms of racing in the world. The word “formula” in the name alludes to the set of rules that must be followed by all participants’ vehicles. A Formula One season consists of a series of Grand Prix races held across the world on both purpose-built circuits and closed public highways.
At Grands Prix, a scoring system is utilised to determine two annual World Championships: one for drivers and the other for teams.
Fastest Cars
Due to extremely high cornering speeds obtained by the development of massive amounts of aerodynamic downforce, Formula One cars are the fastest controlled road-course racing cars in the world. Furthermore, in 2017, the cars underwent significant improvements, allowing for wider front and rear wings, as well as wider tyres, resulting in peak cornering forces of roughly 6.5 lateral g and high speeds of around 350 km/h (215 mph). Electronics, aerodynamics, suspension, and tyres all play a role in the cars. In 1994, traction control, launch control, automatic shifting, and other electronic driving aids were all outlawed. Briefly reinstated in 2001, but prohibited since 2004 and 2008, respectively.
In addition, the average annual cost of running a team – developing, constructing, and repairing automobiles – is quite high.
